James Alan Hetfield nació el 3 de Agosto de 1963, hoy es su cumpleaños numero 63.
Hetfield es el cofundador de la agrupacion Metallica en Octubre de 1981 en Los Ángeles, hecho que se dió después de que Hetfield respondiera a un anuncio en el periódico The Recycler por Lars Ulrich
